Courses

UNC Asheville is now offering a B.S. in Astronomy!
Astronomy Major: Our curriculum explores the physics of stars, galaxies, and black holes, with hands-on training in telescope operation and computational data science methods. The program prepares students for future careers in research, industry, science education and communication, space policy, and more.
Courses included in the Astronomy Major
Astronomy Minor: The Astronomy minor at UNC Asheville facilitates two paths: one can be combined with a physical science major to provide a rigorous preparation for graduate studies in physics/astrophysics; the other is open to students of all majors, who are interested in a comprehensive study of astronomy from historical and applied perspectives.
Our available courses and paths through the Astronomy minor can be found at the link below:

Students who are interested in pursuing graduate studies in astrophysics are encouraged to consider supplementing the required astronomy curriculum with additional upper-level physics courses and/or independent research (ASTR/PHYS 499), which can be taken for credit with an instructor’s permission.
